Onllwyn Male Voice Choir consists of a team of competent, committed and experienced musicians and equally committed committee members.
Huw Smitham
Musical Director
Born in Swansea, Huw has been involved in amateur music since the age of 15; he has accompanied many choirs and soloists since his big break, at the age of 18, with the Belmont Male Choir in Swansea. As well as accompanying a number of local choirs, he was the founder Conductor of the Neath Male Voice Choir, holding the position for ten years. Huw has also been the Deputy Conductor of the Cymric Male Voice Choir.
Currently Huw is the Organist and Choirmaster of St. Mary’s Church Llansawel, the accompanist of the Morriston Ladies Choir and deputises on the organ for the Pontardulais Male Choir as required.
Huw swapped with Julie, our MD until late 2024, beginning his new role as our MD from November.

Julie Sims
Accompanist
Julie hails from Swansea and has been involved in the music scene since a young age. Julie was accompanist for Swansea Male Voice Choir, where she held the position for 10 years. She then become accompanist with Glynneath Male Voice Choir and later held the same position with Côr Meibion Onllwyn, taking over the MD role until reverting to the piano in late 2024. She has been a loyal member of the musical team for some 25 years.
Julie has played in many concert halls here in the UK and abroad, and has accompanied many guest artists. Latterly Julie has been involved in the musical team at the Wales International Academy of Voice, Cardiff; she is an experienced repetiteur.
